AI companion voice + memory: 7 privacy and continuity checks before you subscribe

“Voice” and “memory” can describe very different product behavior. This checklist separates the claims you can verify before paying from the experience you can only judge after using a service.

Quick decision rule

A useful voice-and-memory companion should make three things reasonably clear: what kind of voice interaction you are getting, what information survives between sessions, and what control you have over stored conversation data. If one of those is unclear, treat the feature as UNKNOWN rather than assuming the marketing label tells you how it works.

1. Identify the voice mode

Do not treat every “voice” feature as equivalent. Verify whether the service offers generated voice messages, text-to-speech playback, asynchronous voice notes, or a real-time audio call.

2. Ask what happens to raw audio

Voice privacy is not only about whether a call is encrypted in transit. A more useful pre-subscription question is what happens after the call: is raw audio retained, converted to text, deleted, or used for another purpose?

Verification test: look for a current privacy-policy statement that distinguishes raw audio from transcripts. If the policy does not say, keep the retention status UNKNOWN.

3. Separate short context from persistent memory

A companion can appear to “remember” during one long chat simply because earlier messages remain in the active context. Persistent memory is different: information survives a session boundary and is available later.

4. Check memory controls, not just memory size

More memory is not automatically better. For personal conversations, control matters. Before relying on persistent memory, verify whether saved memories can be viewed, removed, corrected, or isolated between conversations.

Practical rule: if you cannot determine how to remove an incorrect or sensitive memory, do not assume that deleting one chat removes every stored memory associated with it.

5. Verify what deletion actually deletes

“Delete account,” “delete chat,” and “delete memory” can be different operations. Read the current privacy and product documentation for each one. Transaction records may also have a separate legal retention period from chat content.

6. Keep billing separate from feature fit

Before subscribing, check the current renewal cycle, cancellation method, what is included in the subscription, and whether optional media or voice features consume separate credits. LarkMetric deliberately does not publish a price table on this Probe because stale pricing is worse than no pricing.

7. Confirm age and lawful access

Adult AI-companion services may restrict access by age and jurisdiction. Check the destination’s current terms and local law before creating an account. LarkMetric does not collect date of birth, identity documents, biometric data, or intimate-preference profiles on this page.

Policy-backed example: Secrets.ai

One currently supported route is Secrets.ai. The points below are derived from Secrets’ own current documentation; they are not independent hands-on performance claims by LarkMetric.

Voice handling
Secrets’ Privacy Policy states that audio-call voice is transcribed in real time, raw audio is deleted, and the text transcription is retained so the companion can remember the conversation.

Persistent memory
Secrets’ Memory System documentation describes automatic saving of selected user-provided details, future recall, memory importance levels, and controls to view/delete saved memories.

Chat scopes
Secrets’ Multiple Chats documentation describes private chats and shared memory groups, with different behavior when chats are deleted.

Age
Secrets’ Terms and Underage Policy state that the service is for users who are at least 18 and the age of majority where they live.

What this page can and cannot tell you

Can verify before signup: published age rules, documented audio/transcript handling, documented memory controls, stated deletion rules and current billing terms.

Cannot verify from policy text alone: voice naturalness, latency, how consistently a companion recalls the right detail, subjective relationship quality, or whether a feature will fit your personal expectations.

How LarkMetric handles this page

LarkMetric does not operate the destination AI companion, does not provide approval, safety or performance guarantees, and does not collect chat content on this page. If an eligible commercial route is shown, a first-party redirect generates a random opaque attribution identifier. Raw chat text, intimate preferences and identity data are not placed in that identifier.
